Description: YOSHIDA HIROSHI Japanese Woodblock Prints Book Art Works Collection Exhibition Description Condition: New About the author Born in 1876 (Meiji 9) in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Moved to Tokyo in 1894 (Meiji 27). Moved to America in 1899 (Meiji 32). Exhibitions have been held in Detroit, Boston, Washington, and England. Since then, he has frequently gone on sketching trips to America, Europe, India, China, and all over Japan. In 1920 (Taisho 9), he met the publisher Shozaburo Watanabe and published his first woodblock print. In 1925 (Taisho 14), he created the ``America Series'' (6 pieces) and ``Europe Series'' (11 pieces) of woodblock prints depicting European and American landscapes. From this year, he had his own carvers and printers and began publishing woodblock prints. After the war ended in 1945, many Americans, including Mrs. MacArthur, visited Hiroshi Yoshida and became friends with him. He passed away in 1950 (Showa 25) at the age of 73.
